I had an abortion in high school. We had used protection and it failed, so we did what we had to do. It was no big secret or anything. My friends knew, my mom knew and my sister knew. But now I am a mom. I have 2 kids under 5 and I work full time but barely make enough to cover what we need let alone what we want. I found out I was pregnant again and I use birth control. I have no room in my life for another child. With covid I am even more behind on expenses and can't imagine another baby to take care of and feed. I scheduled the abortion and had it at 9 weeks. Now I can focus on my family and job. Another baby would have ruined everything for me and my kids. I am not sorry because I did what I had to do. Is it OK to feel relieved?

A note from Connect & Breathe: Yes, it is OK to feel relieved. The feelings that accompany an abortion experience - whether it be sadness, relief, anxiety, happiness, grief, or guilt - may vary from person to person and change over time. Each of these feelings are normal because each situation is as unique as the individual who had the experience. It is OK to trust yourself and your decision.
